UTSA Institute for Economic Development helps fuel economy and job growth

SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 28, 2019 – Through business advising to more than 43,000 business and community clients, the UTSA Institute for Economic Development generated $2.9 billion in direct economic impact nationwide, according to its newly released 2018 annual report. Of those who received advising, training and business research assistance, over 1000 businesses were started or experienced significant growth, resulting in the creation or retention nearly 20,000 jobs. These businesses generated $291 million in new financing and $35 million in new tax revenue, with new sales, contracts and exports valued at $2.6 billion dollars. During the 2018 fiscal year, the Institute: Served 43,320 business and community clients Provided trainings and workshops to 30,815 participants Delivered 7,694 consulting cases Helped start up 565 new businesses Helped scale up 534 existing businesses Supported the creation of 6,238 new jobs and the
