UTSA and key Mexican partners release preliminary report on impacts of energy reform on the Mexican Economy

(San Antonio, May 28, 2015) – The University of Texas at San Antonio’s Institute for Economic Development, the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, the Asociación de Empresarios Mexicanos, and the Woodrow Wilson Center are set to release a preliminary report to gauge the growth and the effects that the oil and natural gas industry will have for residents and decision makers in Mexico. The report contains a general overview on the Energy Reform, an economic background on oil and natural gas (especially trade between US and México) a state level profile, infrastructure and educational certificates specific to oil and natural gas education. UTSA Institute for Economic Development hosts Small Business Administration Town Hall event May 6

The UTSA Institute for Economic Development was one of five organizations nationally to be selected as a host for a Small Business Administration (SBA) Town Hall as part of National Small Business Week. The Town Hall will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 in the Buena Vista Building Aula Canaria (BV 1.328) room at the UTSA Downtown Campus. The International Trade Center, a specialty Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Institute for Economic Development, announced today that it is partnering with the US Commercial Service to hold the US–Mexico Oil and Gas Business Exporting Conference on May 8, 2015. UTSA leading charge to expand and adapt U.S. SBDC model internationally

This week, The University of Texas at San Antonio Institute for Economic Development is participating in the Summit of the Americas in Panama and releasing a progress report on the Small Business Network of the Americas (SBNA) launched by President Obama for the 2012 Summit. The SBNA was built on UTSA’s existing framework of expanding the SBDC model in Mexico and Central America. SBNA’s vision is to develop the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) sector and encourage greater trade with our partner countries in this hemisphere. Region supported nearly 155,000 full-time jobs last year (San Antonio, Sept. 23, 2014) – The production of oil and natural gas in the Eagle Ford Shale generated more than $87 billion in total economic output for the state last year, according to a study released today by The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Institute for Economic Development. UTSA researchers also concluded that shale activity supported almost 155,000 full-time equivalent jobs and provided more than $4.4 billion to local and state governments in 2013. UTSA projects that by 2023 the region will support more than 196,000 jobs and generate more than $137 billion for Texas. UTSA SBDCNet Conducted its 70,000th Research Request

(May 1, 2014) The Small Business Development Center National Information Clearinghouse (SBDCNet) conducted its 70,000th business information request in May. SBDCNet is dedicated to meeting the needs of the 1,100 small business development centers (SBDC) across the United States by providing timely, relevant, web-based information, and training services to SBDC advisors and their clients. Using Web-based subscription services and other databases available through the UTSA Library, SBDCNet researchers can collect data on industry trends, geography and demography, customer profiles, competitive company details, regulations, intellectual property, location suitability and more. Each request consists of several different reports totaling over 350,000 individual reports during the SBDCNet’s history. UTSA hosts Mexico-U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC) Meeting April 23-25

(April 16, 2014) The University of Texas at San Antonio Institute for Economic Development will host the first Mexico-U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC) meeting in the United States April 23-25. Established in 2013, MUSEIC was created as a part of the High-Level Economic Dialogue announced by President Barack Obama and Mexican President Enrique Peña-Nieto to promote bi-national approaches to advance North American competitiveness, trade, and innovation in the entrepreneurial sector.
